OK. I admit it. I’m a total sucker for a teen hip-hop flick. I blame it a bit on the desire to still think of myself as a teenager (or at least in my young 20′s). Part of it is about admiring a talent that some possess that I don’t and the other part is just watching really fit people show off their bods. Fine, fine. I might be a pervert, but I like to think I am no more so than great artists that sketch the human form. There is just something about a toned body that BEGS to be looked at (even though there is just the barest of glimpses of Robert Hoffman’s tight torso).

Step Up 2: The Streets (but why is the girl shown twice?!)

Anyway, a sequel of any type is generally pretty bad and this is really no exception to that rule (in fact, the first movie was pretty bad too, but watching Channing Tatum shake his booty is some pretty fine entertainment). However, I’ve found I’m a bit addicted to this movie. I saw it on a plane once and then watched it again on the return flight. And then I found myself downloading it to watch once more at home. And then, I watched it even one MORE time.. just because. And maybe I’ll watch it again after doing this post. Because I can’t stop watching it!

Dancing in the Rain

So, I’m thoroughly hooked. The story is pretty predictable. Hip Hop girl goes against the grain and gets stuck in a stuffy School of Fine Arts. She brings her ‘street style’ dance to a group of misfits and they end up pulling a Karate Kid. But still, even if you don’t care about the story (I didn’t), it’s chock full of some great dancing. Some of it doesn’t even look like a human should be able to pull it off.

Of course, this is also coming from an almost 40 year old that loves movies like “High School Musical”. So, maybe you don’t want to listen to what I have to say here. But, as an almost 40 year old that can’t get enough of pop culture, this movie is well worth the watch. Just don’t listen to it too much.
